Showing my age there, Why Dont You?, who remembers that then?
Well I made the decision to do just that and turn off the TV as it has become boring and mundane, it just doesn’t excite anymore.
Who remembers even in the bad old days of nothing but repeats that we reveled in the delight of a new Cinzano ad? Oh, miss Jones let me throw this drink all over your top…., at least I laughed!
Even back then the ads entertained us until the drab shows returned to ruin our evenings entertainment, but not today.
Now it’s either 1000 channels of crap and repeats on Sky, how many ways can someone be caught by a police officer while robbing a convenience store in the states? How many times can I watch that 1971 repeat of Dr Who on UK Gold?
Don’t get me wrong I still need to be entertained and I will be, I am turning off the tv and replacing it with content from the internet, and no, not what your thinking (OK, maybe just a little LOL) there is thousands of hours of entertainment out there in audio and now video form to keep my eyes and ears busy and a lot of it is good and getting better.
My recommendations are:
Goodnight Burbank - US Newsroom spoof - http://www.goodnightburbank.com
Diggnation - Browsers and Beer, is there any better combination? - http://www.diggnation.com
Pets - Adult comedy from out four legged friends - http://pets2007.btpodshow.com
Beautiful Places in HD - Yes HD is out there, hook your computer to your telly - http://homepage.mac.com/tonyfarley/beautifulplaces/beautifulplaces.html
I recommend using iTunes or some other similar software to automatically download the episodes.
I already listen to a load of podcasts so this just sets me even more free from conventional media.
Go seek, there is a lot to find.

Hi Stephen
At last, a person with the same viewpoint on TV as me! British TV is like ‘chewing gum for the eyes’.
I’m in the middle of writing my own webpage at present, it’s halfway between a good ‘ole rant and a list of YouTube, Internet, Music links that other people might find entertaining.
I spend my evenings these days surfing the net (YouTube a particular fave) and other computer-based stuff. Apart from Dr Who, Sarah Jane Adventures and QI there is not much on TV it would break my heart to miss!
Wow, I remember Why Don’t You! You’re right, there isn’t a lot on tv these days, there’s only a handful of programs that I watch these days. Came across your blog via Britblog - hi!
